Schema markup is the behind-the-scenes code that tells a machine what your page means. To a browser, your bio reads as a bio. To an AI crawler without schema, it is just text. With the right schema, it is clearly "a licensed real estate agent, in this city, with these specialties."
The types that matter for agents
Most agent sites either use no structured data or a vague Organization tag. The useful
types are more specific. RealEstateAgent identifies you as an agent and
carries your name, brokerage, area served, and contact details. LocalBusiness
covers your office, hours, and location. If you publish listings, Residence or
the real estate listing types describe individual properties. And Person schema
ties your name to your credentials and profiles.
What to put inside it
Schema only helps if it is filled in honestly and completely. Include your legal name and the
brokerage you hang your license with, your real service area by city or neighborhood, your license
details where appropriate, and sameAs links to your genuine profiles on Zillow, your
brokerage site, and LinkedIn. Those sameAs links are how an engine confirms that the
person on your site is the same person it sees elsewhere.
Common mistakes
Three show up constantly. Marking up information that does not appear on the page, which search
engines treat as a violation. Leaving sameAs pointing at profiles that do not exist, which
hurts trust rather than helping. And letting a template builder inject generic schema that labels you a
plain business instead of a real estate agent.
Get it generated for your site
You can write JSON-LD by hand, but it is fiddly and easy to get wrong. GeoRoar's free audit checks
whether your current schema is present, valid, and the right type, and the Fix Pack generates
ready-to-paste RealEstateAgent and LocalBusiness markup built from your own
site. Run the free audit first to see what you are missing.
